Message from the Executive Director

Kathy Matt

The Alliance is a powerful platform to accelerate interdisciplinary and translational research and education, which will change the lives of people today through its impact on prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Several key initiatives have been created to speed the translation of “bench to bedside” solutions.

A pilot grant program has been set up to provide up to $75,000 of funding for collaborative research projects that include at least one collaborator from each of the four institutions. Since the inception of the program, four grants have been funded each year, and it is anticipated that funding of proposals will continue with a call for proposals occurring each fall and spring.

Joint educational programs allow for increased enrollment, clinical training for students, shared space, multidisciplinary instruction and capitalizing on the diversity of strengths of the Alliance institutions. Pilot grants that focus on creation and development of educational programs are in development.

In an effort to facilitate collaboration, the Alliance is developing a PROFILES platform that will enable faculty, students, researchers and clinicians to search for collaborators within the Alliance. These connections will foster discovery and advance the translation of research to clinical practice, shortening the pipeline to applications that can change lives.

Please continue to check out this website to learn about new developments and opportunities. I also encourage you to contact me with your ideas and suggestions for the Alliance. We look forward to working together with you to accelerate the interdisciplinary and translational research in our region.
